Abstract

782,949. Auxiliary power systems for aircraft. AIR-EQUIPMENT. July 22, 1955 [July 27, 1954], No. 21239/55. Class 4. An accessory gearbox 1 on aircraft driven from an engine (not shown) through a universal joint 5 has three take-off drives 2, 3 and 4 for engine driven auxiliaries. One point 4, has a mounting flange and an easily releasable fastening for the flange 27 of a secondary gearbox 19 which is connected by a universal joint 25 and shaft 24 to an external power source 26. The drive from joint 5 passes through a spring- closed clutch (not shown) which is released by a shaft 9 operated by a lever 30 and rod 33 urged to the right by the flange 27 when gearbox 19 is mounted on gearbox 1. Normally, engine auxiliaries mounted at 2 and 3 are driven from the engine through the clutch. If it is necessary to test the auxiliaries with the engine not operating the gearbox 19 is mounted on gearbox 1 whereby the clutch is automatically freed so that the auxiliaries may be operated by power source 26.
