Abstract
1485732 Toothed gearing B V KONINKLIJKE MAATSCHAPPIJ "DE SCHELDE" 7 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974] 681/75 Heading F2Q In a marine propulsion unit, a propeller 3 is driven from an engine 2 through a main pinion 9 and a main gear 6, and an input shaft 16 passes through an annular power-take-off gear-wheel 19 located between the main pinion 9 and the engine 2, a torque sleeve 31 being provided in the bore of the PTO gear-wheel 19 and around the input shaft 16, contacting neither, the torque sleeve 31 being adapted to be driven at one end by a movable coupling from either the main pinion 9 or from the input shaft 16 and being coupled at its other end to the PTO gear-wheel 19. As shown in Fig. 2a, the sleeve 31 is coupled to flanges 25 of input shaft 16 by toothed coupling members 27, 28 and is coupled to the PTO gear-wheel 19 by toothed coupling members 29, 30. In an alternative embodiment shown in Fig. 2b, the sleeve 31 is coupled to the main pinion 9 by a toothed coupling member 34 and adapter flange 35. In each of these embodiments, the coupling member 28 may be moved axially for disengagement purposes by a fork 32 and lever system 33. In a further modification, the coupling member 28, Fig. 4, is internally toothed and is adapted to engage either externally toothed member 27, secured to flange 25, or externally toothed member 35, secured to PTO gear-wheel 19. An air operated inflatable annulus type clutch 14 is located between the end of input shaft 16 and a shaft 11 of main pinion 9.
