Abstract
782,677. Dressing grinding wheels. DURNDELL, G. J. May 12, 1955 [May 12, 1954], No. 13860/54. Class 60. A pantograph-controlled device for profiling the face of a grinding wheel 48, Fig. 1, has the pantograph and the templet 20 adjustable to an inclined position for producing on the wheel a distorted form of the templet profile, the movement of the pantograph being transmitted to the tool-holder carriage through two members adapted for relative sliding movement in a direction perpendicular to a fixed plane, the slidable connection coupling the tool-holder carriage to the pantograph mechanism for movement parallel to the fixed plane. The device comprises a base 10 which may be mounted upon the bed 11 of a cylindrical or surface grinder and supports for adjustment about a pivot 24, Fig. 2, a sub-frame 17 carrying a table 16 for adjustment about a pivot 27, the pivotal adjustments being secured by clamping bolts 25 and 28. The table 16 carries the templet 20 and the fixed pivot 18 of the pantograph 12, 12a, 13, 14 and 15. Inclination of the templet and pantograph about pivots 24 and 27 enables a distortion of the templet profile to be produced on a wheel for grinding a workpiece such as a lathe tool with the necessary top and side rake angles. The tool 30, and if required a second tool for alternative use, are secured to a block 46 pivotally mounted on a bolt 45 vertically adjustable in a slotted lug 43 carried by a part-circular slide 38. A linkage 23 connected by a ball joint 50 and a peg 52 to a socket 53 on the lug 43 couples the slide 38 and the stylus 21 for oscillation in unison. The bodily movement of the stylus as reduced by the inclination of the pantograph is transmitted through a ball joint 35 and a telescopic connection (not shown) to a compound slide 31, 32 carrying the slide 38. Ball bearings are used for the slides and the telescopic connection. Specifications 419,178, 643,240 and 687,182 are referred to.
