Abstract

782,416. Valves. SAUNDERS VALVE CO., Ltd. April 4, 1955, No. 12455/54. Class 135. A valve comprising a diaphragm obturator 15 urged on to its seat by pressure of the controlled fluid which has access to the back of the diaphragm through an aperture 18 is mechanically pushed off of its seat by a shouldered rod 34 which, in co-operation with a resilient washer 41, constitutes a second obturator controlling return flow from the main outlet 13 to an exhaust port 43, and the two obturators work in opposite phase. A cruciform tappet inter. posed between rod 34 and diaphragm 15 allows some lost-motion between the actuation of the two obturators. The upper part of rod 34 is packed by an 0-ring 45. The actuating lever 35 forms, with a link 36, a toggle device which, when the lever is thrown over until a shoulder 37 on the link abuts the end of a slot 38 in the lever, locks the valve with upper obturator closed and the diaphragm 15 open.
