Abstract

782,382. Shuttleless looms. PARKEPPA, P., and STOHR, F. J. Feb. 10, 1955 [Feb. 15, 1954], No. 4068/55. Classes 142(2) and 142(4) A multiple weft inserting needle, Fig. 1, comprises two (or more) arms 1a, 1b, extending from opposite ends of a crosshead 2 reciprocating between pairs of superposed sheds, whereby wefts are inserted into sheds A, Band C, D alternatively to weave two tubular or two-ply fabrics or four single-ply fabrics. Knitted selvedges are formed at the outer edges of tubular fabrics by drawing each lower weft loop through the simultaneously inserted upper weft loop and through the each preceding lower weft loop, or by drawing loops of a separate catch thread through the weft loops. Sacks can be made by weaving separate layers of fabric, united at one selvedge, for a distance equal to the width of . a sack, then combining the two warps into one layer along two lines spaced apart by a narrow zone of separate weaving and cutting along the narrow zones. Healds. The mails, Fig. 3a, consist of pairs of short rods R fixed between a pair of strips S, there being two such mails spaced apart vertically to manipulate a warp thread belonging to each of the superposed sheds. Lease rods. The warp for the upper shed passes under, and the warp for the lower shed over, a single lease rod; the upper warp then passes over the upper one of a pair of vertically-spaced lease rods, and the lower warp passes under the lower rod of the pair.
