Abstract
Detergent compositions contain 0.05-5 per cent, generally not more than 1 per cent, of a 2-guanidino-arylo-imidazole as an agent against the corrosion of copper and copper alloys in water or aqueous alkaline solutions. These compounds, which can contain as aryl radicals the benzene or naphthalene ring, may be further substituted, for example, by halogen or by alkyl alkoxy, nitro, acylamino, alkylsulphonyl, arylsulphonyl or sulphonic acid amide groups, but may not contain any group, such as the carboxylic, sulphonic or phosphonic acid group, which dissociates acid in water. The preferred compound is 2-guanidino-benzimidazole but many other suitable compounds are specified. The compositions may also contain alkali metal carbonates, borates, perborates, silicates, pyroand tripoly-phosphates, sulphates and chlorides, anionic sulphonated or sulphated detergents, non-ionic fatty alcohol and alleylphenol polyglycol ether detergents, fatty acid alkanolamides and polyglycol ethers thereof, sulphosuccinic acid esters, soap, fatty acids, carboxymethyl cellulose, and optical brighteners of the stilbene derivative type, such as one of the 4 : 41 bis(triazinylamino) - stilbene - 2 : 21 - di - sulphonic acid class.
