Class 100(2) A lithographic printing plate comprises a plate of aluminium or aluminium alloy having a porous absorbent anodic layer formed therein and having a hydrophilic colloid sealed ink the anodic layer. The method of preparing such a plate consists in anodizing the plate of aluminium or aluminium oxide so as to form the porous absorbent layer thereon and then either dipping the anodized plate for several minutes into a hydrophilic colloid solution maintained at ambient temperature and subsequently treating with boiling water or steam for twenty to thirty minutes or immersing the plate in a boiling solution of the hydrophilic colloid for twenty to thirty minutes. Suitable hydrophilic colloids include gum arabic, gum ghatti, mesquite gum, the sodium or ammonium salts of arabic acid, carboxy-methyl cellulose, alginic acid, carboxymethyl starch, methyl cellulose and oxidized starch.
