Abstract
764,443. Photographically presensitized plate for planographic printing processes. POLYCHROME CORPORATION. Jan. 21, 1955 [Feb. 4, 1954], No. 1920/55. Class 98(2) A metallic base is acid etched, provided with a siliceous coating which is hardened by contact with a solution of an alkaline earth salt, and then with a light sensitive surface. In a specific example an aluminium plate is etched in phosphoric acid solution, rinsed, immersed in a solution containing sodium hydroxide, tetrasodium pyrophosphate and " sodium tripolyphosphate," rinsed, desmutted in a chromic acid mixture, rinsed, immersed in a sodium silicate solution, rinsed, immersed in a calcium nitrate solution, rinsed, and then the silicate and calcium nitrate treatments are repeated and the plate rinsed in acidified water, dried and sensitized on both sides with the condensation product of paraformaldehyde and paradiazodiphenylamine. The plates so made are stated to have at least a 5 month storage life in the sensitive condition. Use of salts of barium, strontium or magnesium instead of the calcium nitrate, and of sodium 2, 7 anthroquinone disulphonate instead of the above diazo sensitized is referred to.
