Abstract
781,633. Moulding magnets. SOC. AUDAX. Sept. 12, 1955 [Nov. 9, 1954; May 23, 1955], No. 25969/55. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXXV] In making an annular permanent magnet with radial grain orientation as shown in Fig. 1, a sintered mixture of oxides of iron, of chromium and of an alkaline earth metal such as barium' or of lead is powdered, mixed with water and placed in an annular mould formed by the space between magnetic ring 6 and pole 7. The water is extracted through holes 9 covered with a filter cloth in a non-magnetic plate 8 forming the base of the mould, space 11 between plate 8 and non- magnetic dished plate 10, and passage 13 through magnetic post 2, to which is connected a vacuum pump. Pressure is applied through non-magnetic piston 28. The grains are orientated in the liquid phase by a radial magnetic field developed by coil 1 and passing through a magnetic circuit comprising post 2, base 4, cylinder 3, lid 5, ring 6 and the oxide mixture. After its removal with members 6, 7 the mixture is partially dried, this assembly is replaced and the mixture again compressed. A suitable apparatus for producing parallel grain orientation in a pressed magnet having the shape of a parallel piped or disc is described, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) Specification 708,127 [Group XXXV] is referred to.
