Abstract

1386358 Moving coil transducers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 July 1972 [29 July 1971] 34940/72 Heading H4J In a moving coil transducer such as a microphone the air gap is defined between a core 4 (Fig. 1) and an upper plate 2 by centering means integral with the upper plate 2. The centering means comprises three re-entrant projections 8 spaced 120 degrees apart and having ends 9 sufficiently low to permit movement of the moving coil. The inner walls 10 are accurately sized. Core 4 is integral with a lower plate 3 of soft iron. Upper plate 5 is of sintered iron and annular magnet 1 is oxidic ceramic material. An alternative transducer (Fig. 4) as a permanent magnet core 11. An upper plate 12 has three re-entrant projections 18 joined to a disc 14 which forms a pole piece for the magnet. The ends 9 (Fig. 1) and projections 18 (Fig. 4) have portions of reduced cross-section and these portions are magnetically saturated so as to present a high reluctance and, in consequence, low magnetic leakage.
