Abstract

780,979. Microwave circuits. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 25, 1955 [April 6, 1954], No. 10097/54. Class 40 (8). Two transmission lines 1, 2, e.g. waveguides, are coupled at two points 3, 4 spaced apart along the length of each line by unequal electrical distances. For this purpose the physical distances between the couplings may be different or the physical distances may be the same and the cross-sections of the guides different. If the path difference is arranged to be an integral member of half-wavelengths at a desired frequency then energy at this frequency fed to one of the inputs A, D will all appear at one or other of the outputs B, C. Energy of other frequencies will be divided in varying proportions between the outputs. The couplings may be of the 3 db. slot-type, as shown, or may be of the "rat-race" or Magic-T type. The circuit may be coupled to a magnetron oscillator in such a manner that energy is diverted from the load when the magnetron oscillates in an undesired mode.
