Class 64(1) The hot combustion gases in a gas-fired water heater come into contact with at least two water jets 43, 46 im succession. Air is drawn through a passage 13 to a ring of gas burners 17 from which the combustion products flow in the direction indicated by the arrows to a flue 12 concentric with the passage 13. Cold water flows to the jets 43, 46 through pipe 41, a ring pipe 42. a pipe 44 and a hollow disc 45. The water from the jets 43 falls into a tray 35 and trickles through a ring of holes 36 on to a gauze or expanded metal liming 30 arranged within a cup-shaped member 29 which also receives the water falling on to a shallow dome 32 from the jets 46. Apertures or serrations at the bottom of the member 29 allow the water to drain down the external surface of a duct 27 into an annular trough 48 which is connected to the hot water outlet by pipes 49, 51 and a trap 50. To enable the heater to be cleaned, the casing 23 is detachably connected to the base 10 by springs 26, a rubber sealing ring 24 and a detachable band 25.
