Abstract

780,411. Tea and coffee preparations. CONFORZI, G. March 23, 1956, No. 9147/56. Class 129. Tea leaves or ground coffee are moistened with essence of neroli and then placed in a perforated receptacle and introduced into a container to which hot water is added which covers the receptacle but leaves a mass of absorbent material in the container above the liquid level. The caffeine becomes mixed with the pinene and camphene in the neroli essence which latter evaporate and are absorbed in the absorbent material. The infusion is filtered, most of the tannin being removed and then caramel sugar and preservative, e.g. sodium benzoate or thymol or both, are added. The filtrate may be bottled, carbonated and pasteurised at 60‹ C. This beverage can be concentrated so that on dilution with hot or cold water it yields a beverage. The apparatus comprises a container 1 with a lid 2 containing absorbent material 5 held in by a hinged mesh disc 4. Woven metal cloth receptacle 8 is suspended from a bar 6 in the container by a stem 7. Hot water is supplied from a heater 9.
