Abstract

780,405. Cast coated paper. WARREN CO., S. D. Dec. 29, 1955 [April 27, 1955], No. 37315/55. Class 96. Cast-surface coated paper is made by including in the mineral coating mixture, a release agent which also imparts moisture resistance to the dried paper, e.g. a ketene dimer, the ketenes having either two aliphatic hydrocarbon groups, e.g. of 6 to 20 carbon atoms, or one such group and hydrogen, i.e. the ketenes may be keto, aldoalkyl or alkylene ketenes, e.g. hexyl, decyl, tetradecyl, hexdecyl, or eicosanyl ketenes, or may be derived from oleic, stearic, or palmitic acids. The pigments may be clay, calcium carbonate, blanc fixe, satin white, or titanium pigments, and the adhesive may be casein, soya protein, or casein with starch, animal glue or a copolymer latex. The mixture may include polyoxyethylene sorbitan trioleate as an emulsifying agent, or gum ghatti &c. Proportions mentioned are, by weight : pigment 100; adhesive 15 to 50; and ketene dimer 0.5 to 3.0. Specifications 331,578, [Class 96], 522,204, 549,160, 610,503 and 747,107 are referred to.
