Abstract

779.940. Cutting tools. SCINTILLA, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1955 [April 6, 1955 ; Sept. 21, 1955], No. 35388/55. Class 31 (2). A power-operated hand-guided cutting tool comprises a pair of blade carriers 10, 11 which are reciprocated in opposite directions by means of rollers 8, 9, Fig. 1, rotatable on pins eccentrically mounted on gears 3, 4 which are driven by means of a pinion 2 on the shaft of a motor disposed within support means 1 forming a hand grip. The rollers 8, 9 are movable in grooves in a pair of transmission members 12, 13 which are connected to the blade carriers and are guided in their reciprocating movement by means of members 18. The blade carriers have pins 19, 20 respectively which are adapted to be engaged by transverse notches 23<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, in cutting blades 23 which have outer oppositely inclined cutting edges. The means 1 support a stand 22 having a longitudinal groove to guide the cutting blades, and the stand has a cross pin 28, Fig. 1, which is adapted to be engaged by notches 23<SP>11</SP> in the lower ends of the cutting blades. The stand 22 is fixed to a base 24 which has an opening to receive the cutting blades. The support means 1 has an opening 29, Fig. 3, communicating with the groove in the stand 22, and the front of the opening 29 is closed by a plate 26, Fig. 1, which is secured to the support means 1 by screw members 27 and serves to maintain the cutting blades in operative engagement with their carriers. The blade carrier 10, which is longer than the blade carrier 11, is provided with openings 21 to reduce the weight thereof. In a modification, Figs. 2 and 5 (not shown), the pinion on the motor shaft meshes with only one of the gears which mesh with each other. In a further modification, Figs. 8 and 9, the lower reduced end of a stand 31 is removably secured in an opening 36 in a base 33 by means of a screw 35 which draws together the parts of the base on opposite sides of a slot 34 therein.
