Abstract

779,706. Earth working apparatus. RUSSELL, R. C. H. Nov. 18, 1955 [Nov. 25, 1954], No. 34133/54. Class 68 (1). A cable-hauled, earth-working, bowl-type scraper has a grader balde 3 positioned behind a bowl 1 so pivotally mounted on a chassis 4 that it can be rotated in an upward and rearward direction from a forwardly facing digging position to a load-carrying position and thence to an inverted rearwardly facing discharge position, the blade being for spreading material discharged from the bowl as the scraper is drawn forward. The blade is preferably vertically adjustable. The bowl is rotated from the digging position by the winding in of a cable 10 on the drum of a winding engine causing movement through a second cable of the scraper over the ground, the cable 10 being wound round a drum 8 mounted on a shaft rotably mounted on the scraper chassis. Secured to said shaft are one or two smaller drums 7 and around the or each of said drums 7 is wound a cable 9 that is anchored to the bowl. The bowl is so balanced that when empty it will take up the digging position. Stops 23, 24, 25 on the chassis and bowl determine the digging and discharge positions. Four cable haulage systems for advancing and retracting the scraper over the ground are described.
