Abstract

778,783. Winding yarn. FRASER & SONS, Ltd., D. Oct. 7, 1955 [Oct. 11, 1954]. No. 29181/54. Class 120 (2). A drum winding machine in which at least one thread guide bar is connected to a rocking lever pivoted to the machine frame and carrying a cam follower in engagement with a cam, and in which the stroke of the thread guide bar is variable by altering the positions of the rocking lever and of the cam follower relatively to the frame has means provided for altering the positions of the rocking lever and cam follower in such a way that during operation of the machine the axis of the cam follower when prolonged intersects the axis of the cam at the points of reversal of the throw of the cam. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the pivot 5 of the lever 4 is fixed and the cam axle 2 is slidably mounted between plates 9 so that the cam 1 is adjustable in the frame 3 towards or away from the pivot 5. The cam follower 8 is adjustably mounted in a slot 10 in the lever 4. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the pivot 5 is again fixed, the cam follower 8 is again slidably mounted in a slot in the lever 4 and the cam axle 2 is slidably mounted in a longitudinal slot in the frame 3, being maintained in the desired position by a nut engaged by the screwthreaded end of the axle 2 this being of reduced diameter. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, the cam 1 is fixed in the frame 3 and the follower 8 is fixed in the lever 4, but the lever 4 and a fixed part 6 of the frame are relatively adjustable by means of a pivot 5 which engages two registering holes of the series 16, 17. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown) the pivot 5 of the lever 4 is fixed, and the axle 2 of the cam 1 is slidable in a longitudinal slot in the frame 3, the frame also being formed with transverse slots which communicate with the longitudinal slot to receive the axle 2, which is retained in the desired position by a dowel or key-piece passed through one of the slots. The lever 4 is formed with a series of longitudinally spaced holes, the follower 8 being adjustable by passing it through a selected hole. In each case, to ensure the correct relationship between the axis of the cam follower and that of the cam, a radial hole 12 is provided in the cam 1 and an axial bore in the follower 8 through which a setting tool 11, Fig. 3, may be passed when adjusting the cam follower.
