Abstract

778,553. Regulating; spray carburetters; working cycles. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. March 2, 1956 [March 4, 1955], No. 6633/56. Drawings to Specification. Classes 7 (2), 7 (3) and 7 (6). In an engine in which each cylinder has an ante-chamber provided with an ignition device, in which a rich fuel-air mixture is formed by injection of fuel, a lean fuel-air mixture being supplied directly to the main cylinder space, control of the engine from zero load to half load is effected quantitatively (i.e. by variation of the quantity of mixture) whilst from half load to full load the control is qualitative (i.e. by variation of the composition of the fuel-air mixture). From zero load to half load the supply of lean mixture of constant fuel-air ratio is controlled by a throttle valve, the supply of fuel injected into the ante-chamber by a fuel injection pump being conjointly controlled, either by a connection from the throttle valve or by a device actuated by intake pipe suction, to maintain a substantially constant rich mixture strength in the ante-chamber. Beyond half load the throttle valve is maintained fully open and an additional jet in the carburetter is gradually opened to increase the strength of the lean mixture. The amount of injected fuel may be either decreased slightly from half load to full load, to compensate for the increasing mixture strength of the mixture passing from the main cylinder into the ante-chamber, or may be maintained constant. In a modification the single carburetter supplying the lean mixture is replaced by two carburetters brought into action in succession. Specification 722,044 is referred to.
