Abstract
778,441. Animal holding appliances. CHAFFEY, G., and CHAFFEY, H. Aug. 3, 1955 [Aug. 6, 1954], No. 22293/54. Class 81(2) An animal holding appliance comprises a holding device which normally supports the animal on its back with its head uppermost and is pivotable about a transverse axis so that the animal can be swung over until its forelegs are lowermost and it can then drop by gravity on to its legs. Preferably the appliance is mounted rotatably on a vertical support pillar. 'The pillar 1 has means 2 for attaching it to a fence or post and carries a rotatable sleeve 4 to which a number of holding devices 5 are secured. The sleeve 4 is supported on a collar 4b which'is adjustable for height and is associated with a detent 6 which locates the rotatable assembly in predetermined positions. The angle of the supporting frames 11, pivoted at 10b, and thus of the holders 5, is adjustable by sliding a collar 10 up or down the sleeve 4. Each holding tray is made from a channel-shaped metal sheet 5a having padded hooked members 16, (see also Fig. 4 not shown), for gripping the rear legs and holding 'them apart. Each tray is mounted on a horizontal pivot 11f and is turned over, to eject the 'animal, by disengaging a handle 15 from a catch 14 and turning it about this pivot. This movement also withdraws a pressure plate 20 from the lower part of the tray to remove 'any gripping effect from the animal's hindquarters.
