777,671. Laminated material. MIDLAND SILICONES, Ltd. Oct. 17, 1955 [Nov. 26, 1954], No. 29557/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. Laminated material suitable for use in the production of printed circuits is made by uniting under pressure a non-rubbery base layer, a silicone rubber layer of thickness 5-30 mils. and a foil of copper, tin, aluminium or silver of thickness 1.5-10 mils. and heating to vulcanize the rubber. The base layer may be of aluminium, steel, copper, gold, platinum, tin, glass, glass cloth, organo-silicon resin-coated glass cloth, asbestos, one of a number of specified cellulose esters or ethers or vinyl resins, polyethylene - glycol - terephthalate, polyamides, polytetrafluoroethylene, polychlorotrifluoroethylene, phenol aldehyde resins, aminoplast resins, acrylic resins, fabrics of cotton, silk, wool, rayon or synthetic fibres. The base member may be coated on one or both sides with the silicone rubber and metal foil. The layers may be united between squeeze rolls and the whole passed through an open oven at 220- 800‹ F. Alternatively the laminate may be formed by gentle pressure on the stacked layers and subsequent vulcanizing under heat and pressure in a mould. A priming coating of a mixture of ethyl orthosilicate and iron octoate may be applied to the metal foil. The silicone rubber composition may comprise dimethylsiloxane polymer, fume silica, diatomaceous earth, ferric oxide and benzoyl peroxide.
