Abstract

777,390. Unwinding. SPUEHL AKT.-GES. March 14, 1955 [Aug. 12, 1954], No. 7325/55. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for unreeling wire to a wireprocessing machine, comprises a drum 15, supporting the wire coil to be unreeled, rotated by a ratchet disc 14, through adjustable friction pads 16, driven by a pawl 23 on a friction plate 13 in turn driven by a friction wheel 11 adjustably keyed on a shaft 8 rotated by a chain 12 from the wire processing machine. A pawl 19 is also adapted to engage the ratchet disc 14, being disengaged by means 21 when the wire processing machine is in operation. When the apparatus is stopped the inertia of the drum 15 and the coil it supports, overcoming the friction of the pads 16, causes a bulge in the wire supply to develop between the drum and straightening rollers 26, through which the wire passes to the processing machine, which bulge is taken up when the apparatus is restarted owing to the initial inertial lag of the drum 15.
