Abstract
777,310. Viewing transparencies. FEATHERMAN, C., and AIKMAN, J. A. S. S. Sept. 30, 1955, No. 27836/55. Class 98(2) Apparatus for viewing transparencies consists of an opaque or translucent holder with appropriately sized apertures each having transparency-holding means comprising two strips fixed to the holder so as to overlap opposite edges of a transparency or mount inserted in the aperture, and spring means which urge the transparency or mount in a direction from one strip to the other, but may flex to enable the transparency or mount to be moved to a position wherein it may be disengaged from the strips. As shown in Fig. 1, a stiff cardboard frame 2 is formed with apertures 3, each having a finger-space 4. A leaf spring 10 is mounted in each aperture in the manner shown in Fig. 4. A thin sheet 20 fixed to the back of frame 2 has apertures 21 smaller than, and disposed concentrically with, the apertures 3. A thin sheet 25 fixed to the front of frame 2 has apertures 26 the upright edges of which coincide with the upright adges of apertures 3 in frame 2, but which are of less height than the apertures 3. The upper - edges 29 of apertures 26, which lie below the upper edges of apertures 3, have recesses 29a corresponding to the fingerspaces 4. A transparency in a mount 30 is placed between the upright edges of apertures 3, 26 and pushed down against action of spring 10 until its upper edge can be pushed under the edge 29 of the aperture 26 in the front sheet 25. On release, it is pressed up against the top of aperture 3, and rests against the edges of aperture 21 in the back sheet 20. A finger inserted in spaces 29a, 4 may engage the mount to remove it. The space at the right of the apertures is preferably greater than the space on the left. The holder may be used either for direct viewing or projection of the transparencies. Several holders may be grouped to provide a filing system.
