777,284. Casting composite articles. SOC. FINANCIERE D'EXPANSION COMMERCIALE ET INDUSTRIELLE SOC. ANON. " SFINDEX ". March 15, 1955 [March 18, 1954], No. 7575/55. Classes 83 (1) and 83 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] A method of making a rectilinear-motion bearing comprises locating one member 1, having finished sliding-surfaces, within an aperture 4 in another member 2 and casting material 7, either metal or plastic, in the intervening space 6. A film 5 covers the member 1 and this may be subsequently removed in order to allow predetermined play between the member 1 and filling-material 7. The aperture 4 has a V-shaped profile 21, 23. In a modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5, an elastic sealing-member 8 is compressed against a film 5 by a band 9 during manufacture, as shown on the left-hand sides of the Figs. When the film 5 is subsequently removed, the member 8 seals the space 10 between the filling 7 and member 1 as shown on the right-hand sides of the Figs. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7 a tubularmember 11 is filled with casting-material 12 through valves 18. In another modification, an accurately-fitting member 13, Fig. 9, is located on the member 1 and fixed in the aperture 4 in the member 2 by material 7 cast between members 2, 13. Similarly accuratelyfitting rings 14, Fig. 11, are located in the aperture by material 7. Specification 673,062, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
