777,168. Feeding wrappers. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. March 29, 1956 [March 30, 1955], No. 9222/55. Class 94(1). A web 11 of wrapping material is fed along a cutting platform 12 by rollers 13, 14, the edge of the platform forming a stationary knife with which a movable knife 16 co-operates to sever successive lengths from the web to form a succession of wrappers 17. Each wrapper falls on to a platform 18 along which it is carried by a pusher 19 on a conveyer chain 21, the pusher positioning the wrapper on a continuation 22 of the platform 18 below a former 23 against which it is pressed by a reciprocating pusher 24 preparatory to being folded in known manner. The platform 18 is divided for the passage of the pushers 19, each of which is forked to provide two laterally-spaced pushing elements 25. The central portion 26 of the platform is pivoted at 27 and provided with an extension 28 carrying a roller 29 engaging a cam 31 which operates in timed relationship with the knife 16 to cause the rear end of the portion 26 to tilt to about the level of the platform 12 to receive and support the wrapper 17 prior to its severance from the web. The sloping surface of the portion 26 allows the wrapper to slide smoothly without buckling so that as the portion 26 is lowered, the wrapper is properly positioned on the platform 18 for engagement by the pushing elements 25.
