Abstract
776,960. Hydraulic brakes. FIAT SOC. PER AZIONI, and BALDWIN, P. S. July 26,1955 [Aug. 2, 1954], No. 21601/55. Class 103 (1). A device for insertion in the conduits of hydraulic brake systems whereby the brake shoe clearance on brake release may be automatically adjusted, comprises a cylinder 6 inserted adjacent the master cylinder 1, pressure fluid from which enters by connection 13, passes through the hollow interior of piston 18 and a radial port 27 therein and then acts upon a floating resilient ring member 29 so as to force said member 29 to move upon the cylindrical part 25 and displace fluid on its other side through ports 22 to the brake cylinders, the space 31 being of such a volume that the fluid displaced is just sufficient to bring the brake shoes into contact with the drum. Further increase of pressure causes the piston 18 to move back against spring 22 so that direct fluid flow is possible through ports 28 and past packing 23. If the linings are worn the member 29 will have reached the shoulder 30 before the shoes are on the drum, the final movement taking place by flow past ports 28 and packing 23. On release of brake pressure, however, the shoes will only , move back a distance equivalent to the full displacement for ring 29.
