Class 19 A collapsible brush comprises a tray carrying a number of bristled bars pivoted between the side walls and a tubular cover for the tray which when moved to the extreme open position causes the bars to rotate bringing the bristles into the operational position. Bristle bars 6 pivoted in apertures 4 in the side walls of a tray 1 are moved from the collapsed position shown by a sliding member 8 provided with projections 9 which when moved to the left rotate the bristle bars until the bristles project upwardly and slide beneath the bars to lock them in position against stop ribs 18. The sliding member is operated by a tubular cover 2 (Fig. 3), when at the end of its movement a slot 20a in its lower face is engaged by a tooth 22 projecting downwardly from a member 16 connected at 15 to a link 13 hawing a fixed pivot 14 and connected at its other end 12 to the sliding member. When the cover is, replaced it acts against the tooth 22 and so slides the member 8 until the projections are out of engagement with the bristle bars whereafter it rides over the tooth against the action of a spring 17. A resilient pawl (Fig. 13, not shown) engages further apertures 20, 20b in the lower face of the cover at the extreme ends of its movement to lock the cover in the open and closed positions.
