Garment-racks.-A garment &c. drying rack consists of a number of swinging rails mounted within a shallow box-like casing provided with a hinged lid to cover the rails when out of use, means being provided for moving one or more of the rails, when the lid is closed, to release the lid and allow the bars to be swung into their extended positions. In the construction shown, two sets of rails i, serrated along their upper edges, are arranged on two pivots h, the rails of each set being spaced apart by washers k, the rail below each washer having a tootli n to engage the recess in the washer which has, at its upper end, a tooth n<1> engaging a recess o in the rail above, so that a swinging movement of the lowermost rail automatically moves the other rails of the set successively outwards when the teeth n<1> reach the ends of the recesses o. The lid e, which is normally held open by a spring f, is held closed by a spring catch r which is released when the lowermost rail is swung outwardly by means of a handle m which projects below the lid. A projection p on the lowermost rail engages behind the lowermost rail of the other set of rails to swing it outwards when the handle m is pulled.
