Abstract

A retractable hair brush has a base 1 and bristles 3 which when erected can be used as a hair brush. The bristles are pivoted to the base and can be turned from the lying position inside the base to the upright position by means of lever action provided by sliding the lid under the bristles 3. Stoppers 4 are provided at designated points inside the base to prevent over turning of the bristles. Removal of the lid from the base causes the bristles to pivot into the base which can then be closed by replacing the lid above the bristles to form a compact box. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Retractable hair brush This invention relates to a retractable hair brush.
In our modern day and age, both men and women all overtheworld are more and more concerned with their appearance. Particularly, people have become very concerned with maintaining their elaborately styled hairto the greatest extent they can throughout the day and between visits to the expensive hair cutting shops. Hence the hair brushes have become very popular in recent years and most people do carry a hair brush with them whereverthey go.
One problem observed is that most hair brushes are very bulky to be carried in the pockets of men and handbags of women because ofthe bristles projecting from the base.
It is the object of the applicant's invention to solve the problem by providing a hair brush which consists of retractable bristles pivoted to a base and the bristles can either be erected to form a hair brush orfolded down into the base to form a compact box covered by alid.
According to the present invention there is provided a retractable hair brush comprising of a base in the form of a box covered by a lid which when slides off reveals a number of bristles lying flat and pivoted to the base and the bristles are adapted to turn and stand erect by means of lever action being applied to the bottom end thereof.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the retractable hair brush in its compact carrying mode; Figure 2 illustrates the separation of the lid from the base by sliding; Figure 3 illustrates the lid being used to generate the lever action to erect the bristles by sliding into the slot between the bristles and the base; Figure 4 is a cross-section along lines4-4 of Figure 3; Figure 5 is a cross-section along iines 5-5 of Figure 3; Figure 6 is a cross-section along lines 6-6 of Figure 3; and Figure 7 shows the brush with all the bristles erected with the lid fully slided in place.
Referring to the drawing the retractable hair brush comprises a base 1 and a lid 2 with bristles 3 pivoted to the inner portion ofthe base. the bristles are capable of being turned from the lying position to the upright position by means of lever action. Usually, the hair brush is being carried intheform as shown in Figure 1.
To use the hair brush orin order to erect the bristles, the lid is slided offfrom the base as shown in Figure 2.
The lid is then turned upside down and slided into the slot between the bristles and the base as shown in Figure 3 thus generating a lever action which caused the bristles to stand erect as illustrated in Figures 4,5 and 6. The bristles are all erected securely by pushing the lid fully in place as shown in Figure 7. Stoppers 4 are provided ar designated points inside the base to prevent overturning of the bristles.
To store or carry the hair brush in pockets or handbags the steps described above are carried out in the reverse sequence.
1. A retractable hair brush comprising of bristles pivoted to and contained inside a base in the form of a box or otherwise and the bristles are capable of being turned from their lying position inside the base to stand erect for use as a hair brush by lever action applied at the bottom ends of the bristles.
2. A retractable hair brush as claimed in Claim 1 in which the base containing the bristles has a lid and the bristles are concealed inside the base when the lid is closed.
3. A retractable hair brush as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 wherein the bristles are adapted to be capable of being turned from the lying position inside the base to the upright position bya lever action or otherwise.
4. A retractable hair brush as claimed in Claim 1 to Claim 3 in which the lever action to erectthe bristles is generated by sliding the lid into the slot provided between the bristles and the base.
5. A retractable hair brush as claimed in Claim 1 to Claim 4 in which the lever action to erect the bristles is generated by sliding the bristles onto any object or projection from the base.
6. A retractable hair brush substantially as de scribed herein with reference to Figures 1 to 7 of the accompanying drawings.
