Abstract
776,802. X-ray apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 31, 1955 [March 31, 1954], No. 9449/55. Class 98(1) [Also in Group XL(a)] The pulsed X-ray output from a betatron or synchrotron particle accelerator is synchronized with the recurrent motion of a body for the purpose of taking stroboscopic radiographs. Particles are only injected into the accelerator when its accelerating cycle begins within a fixed time interval after the body reaches a triggering position. At the end of the time interval the particles bombard an X-ray target. Trigger pulses B are derived from voltages induced in coil 9 by a cam 6 connected to the moving object through a shaft 5 and fed to differentiating circuit 13, 14. Pulses B trigger multivibrator 15 to produce square wave pulses C which are fed to a coincidence switch 27 together with signal pulses A from the injection timing circuit 3 of the accelerator. Pulses E from coincidence switch 27 are fed to injection circuit 38. Pulses D produced at the ends of square wave pulses C by differentiating circuit 24, 25 are fed to the ejection circuit 36. In a modification output pulses G are fed to the ejection circuit only when particles are actually injected into the accelerator. Pulses G are derived from a second coincidence switch to which are applied the pulses D and square wave pulses F which are produced in a second multivibrator by pulses E. In order to obtain exact synchronization between X- ral bursts and the moving object, the end of square wave pulse C is determined by a second trigger pulse B<SP>1</SP> which is derived by providing a second tooth on the cam 6.
