Abstract

776,768. Hypodermic syringes. EVERETT & CO., Ltd., S. & R. J. Jan. 17, 1955 [Jan. 22, 1954], No. 2061/54. Classes 81(1) and 81 (2) A syringe holder contains a medicament cartridge having a resilient rear closure having an integral rearwardly extending projection which is grasped by a chuck formed at the front end of a plunger to form a piston, a hypodermic needle being. mounted at the front of the holder and arranged to pierce the cartridge front closure. A holder 1 is fitted with a double-ended needle 5 and contains a cartridge 26 having rubber front and rear closures 29, 25. The rear closure 29 has an integrally moulded rearwardly extending cylindrical spigot 24. The plunger consists of a tube 14 of hexagonal crosssection surrounding an axially slidable rod 20. The front end of the rod 20 has longitudinal splits 21 and is formed into two jaws 23. The rear end of the rod 20 is threaded into a knob 18 which is secured to the tube 14 by a pin 17 fitting in a groove 16. Rotation of the knob 18 moves the rod 20 in the tube 14 to cause the opening and closing of the jaws 23. The front end of the tube 14 and the jaws 23 are formed with conical' surfaces 15, 22 which, when the rod 20 is retracted in the tube 14, engage to cause the jaws 23 to close and grasp the spigot 24. A sheetmetal wedge 9 is slotted into the rear end of the holder 1 and is arranged so that when it is moved transversely of the holder 1 it presses the cartridge 26 forwardly so that the needle 5 pierces the front closure 29. The front face 10 of the wedge 9 is perpendicular to the axis of the cartridge 26 and the rear face 11 is sloping and serrated so that it may engage an edge of the holder 1 to secure the wedge 9 in any desired position According to the Provisional Specification, the wedge has means for lifting one end of the cartridge from the holder. Specifications 741,604 and 776,769 are referred to.
