Abstract

776,662. Waveguides. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 18, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 5014/54. Class 40 (8). Two waveguides are directionally coupled by one or more aligned holes in the contiguous broad faces of the guides, the holes being circular in shape and being offset from the longitudinal axis of each of the guides by a distance where b is the broad dimension of the guides and #g is the wavelength of energy propagated in the guide. Where there is more than one hole these are spaced apart by a distance equal to #g/4 and may be arranged on the same or on opposite sides of the common longitudinal axis. The axes of the waveguides may lie at an angle to each other and provision may be made for relative rotation.
