Abstract
776,072. Travelling-wave tubes. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. July 16, 1954 [July 18, 1953; Feb. 19, 1954], No. 20847/54. Class 39(1). A travelling-wave tube has a ladder delay line wherein the rungs have two end portions connected to the lateral members and interconnected by a resilient metal connection having a smaller cross-section than that of the end portions so that it distorts easily under heat expansion due to electron bombardment while leaving the end rung parts undistorted. The. central gaps in the rungs are bridged by resilient metal wires or plates soldered to the rungs. In another form, Fig. 8 (not shown) two saw cuts are made near the centre of the rungs to give a Z-shaped connection between the two rung parts. A travelling-wave tube with crossed electric and magnetic fields is described with reference to Fig. 9 (not shown). The delay line has a conduit for water circulation. In another form, Fig. 10, the cross section of the rungs increases towards their ends and the input or output coupling member 14 is connected to a resilient wire, plate or band 21 which also bridges the central gap in rung 1.
