Abstract

776,062. Automatic gain control; multiplex radio signalling. PYE, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1954 [Jan. 4, 1954], No. 181/54. Class 40(5) In a television receiver the gain of those stages which are common to sound and vision is controlled from both sound and vision channels. In a receiver comprising common stages 1, Fig. 1 followed by separate sound and vision channels 3, 4 respectively, each of which is provided with its own A.G.C. circuit 6, 7 respectively, the two control potentials are combined by means of resistors R1; 2 the voltage at the join of which is applied to the common stages 1. The proportion in which the two control potentials are combined is determined by the ratio of the resistances R1, 2. A common filter condenser C may be used, or alternatively an R-C filter network, Fig. 2 (not shown) or separate networks in each A.G.C. line, Fig. 3 (not shown). The control on the common stages is delayed by means of a rectifier 11 connecting the common A.G.C. line to ground and provided with a positive delay bias via a resistor R3. One of the resistors R1, 2 may be replaced by a rectifier, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown) in which case the control voltage applied to the initial stages is the stronger or weaker of the two individual control voltages according as the rectifier is poled.
