775,517. Making plated wire and tubing; coiling. KENMORE, H. May 26, 1955 [May 27, 1954], No. 15258/55. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] Apparatus for treating wire, tubing or strip comprises gripping rollers adapted to pass the wire through straightening means, a curving roller offset from the straightening means which forms wire from the straightening means into a helix, and a pair of parallel, horizontal rollers rotated at the same peripheral speed in the same direction on which the helix is supported to pass through electroplating baths. Wire 10 is pulled by a drum 30 through a cleaning and reducing die 31 from a coil 11 on a stand 20, a coil 11<SP>1</SP> on an adjacent stand 21 being welded to the wire on the stand 20. Feed rollers 32, 33 draw the wire from the drum 30 and pass it through roller straightening means 40, 41 to an offset roll 50. The roll 50 forms the wire into a helix which is supported by two horizontal, parallel rollers 260, 261 driven at the same peripheral speed and, with its coils spaced by projections 281 on a rod 280 if necessary, passed through cleaning and electro-plating baths [Group XXXVI].
