Abstract

1,081,632. Coiling. SOCIETE MEUSIENNE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES. May 4, 1965 [May 5, 1964], No.18815/65. Heading B3E. A method of passing wire, strip or other filiform material through a treatment bath or chamber comprises forming at least two helixes from respective strands of said material and directing the helixes along generally parallel axes so spaced that the turns or each helix -are interpenetrated by the turns of at least one other helix, whereby said mutually interpenetrating turns are able to act as pitch regulating means for their helices. Wires 1, 11 from reels 2, 12 are curved by rolls 3, 13 and fed on to rotated support rods 6, 7 and 16, 17 above a tank 10 comprising a pickling compartment 21, a washing compartment 22 and a neutralization compartment 23. The turns of the two helices 5, 15 supported on these rods interpenetrate and are spaced by a grooved roll 9. As the inner support rods 7, 16 terminate short of the outer rods 6, 17 the helices are separated on leaving the tank 10, being supported only by their respective outer rods. An alternative manner of coiling the wires, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), comprises winding both wires on a rotated slightly conical, drum, the coils thus formed passing to the respectve pairs of support rods over guiding rolls.
