774,870. Gauging cross-sectional areas by fluid flow. FBENZL, O. Dec. 16, 1955 [Dec. 17, 1954], No. 36189/55. Class 106 (2). The passage cross-sections of turbine nozzles and the like are compared in an apparatus comprising a duct 7 for a gas-flow dividing into two branches A, B separated by a central wall 3 and having flow resistances a, b at their inlets, the standard and the test-piece being inserted in turn at outlet 18 and the flow in each case being balanced against that through outlet 19 as indicated on a zero-reading pressure gauge 6 having a pitot head in each branch a and b by means of a variable discharge nozzle adjacent the outlet 18, which may be graduated in terms of the cross-sectional differences between the test pieces and the standard. In another embodiment balance is obtained in each case by varying the cross-section of the outlet 19. In another embodiment suitable for testing annular parts, the two passages a, b are coaxially mounted.
