Abstract
<PICT:0713322/III/1> A gas analyser comprises an inlet duct 32 for the gas having an absolute pressure gauge P1 and branching into bridge arms 33, 35 and 34, 36 which recombine into an outlet 37, usually at atmospheric pressure. Nozzles 41-44 (i.e. restrictions each so designed that when the ratio of the exit pressure to the inlet pressure is less than the so-called "critical" figure, sonic velocity is attained in the throat and critical discharge commences in which the mass discharge from the nozzle is independent of the exit pressure) are provided in the arms 33-36, the nozzles 41, 42 being smaller than the corresponding nozzles 43, 44, and the arm 34, 36 is divided downstream of the nozzle 42 into two branches 45, 46 the latter incorporating a desiccator; or other gas conditioning device 47. A change-over valve 48 for the branches 45, 46 is fitted and the branch 65 is arranged to have the same resistance to gas flow as the device 47. In operation, the valve 48 is set so that the gas flows through the branch 45 and the differential pressure gauge DP2 is read or set to zero; the valve 48 is then changed to pass the flow through the conditioning device 47 and the gauge DP2, which may be calibrated to read directly, gives an indication of the change of condition.
