774,375. Laminated materials. AMBRUS, T. June 22, 1954 [March 23, 1953], No. 5040/53. Class 140. A composite sheet for use as a component of thermosetting synthetic resin laminates consists of one or more layers of glass yarn or glass rovings laminated together with one or more layers of single-creped or double-creped paper. The glass yarn or glass rovings may be chopped into short lengths distributed indiscriminately in the layer, may be in continuous lengths parallel to one another in the or each layer, or may be in the form of diamond matting in which glass rovings overlie one another at an angle of about 60 degrees to give diamond-shaped intersections. The composite sheet may comprise a layer of glass yarn or glass roving between paper layers, or a layer of paper between glass layers. The layers may be united by adhesives such as starch, polyvinyl acetate, or pre-impregnating low-pressure resins, e.g. an unsaturated polyester or a phenol-aldehyde resin. One or more of the composite sheets may be laid in a threedimensional curved mould and formed into a laminate by causing a resin, e.g. a polyester, to polymerize in the interstices of the sheet. Superposed layers may have parallel yarns crossing at an angle. Specification 727,663 is referred to.
