Abstract

773,717. Electric ignition fuzes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 27, 1956 [May 25, 1955], No. 15050/55. Class 9 (1). A ventless delay electric igniter suitable for igniting propellants comprises a metal casing 1 containing a base charge 2 of blackpowder above which is a primer charge 3 sufficient to disrupt the casing, a delay element 5 and an electric fuzehead 7 extending through a resilient plug 8 sealing the casing. The charge 2 may be a sulphurless fine grain blackpowder consisting of 70 parts potassium nitrate and 30 parts charcoal. Charge 3 may be a lead azide / lead styphnate / aluminium mixture, above which is a layer 4 of lead dinitro resorcinate precipitated in the presence of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and the delay element is a metal sleeve filled under pressure with a composition consisting of 36 parts antimony and 64 parts potassium permanganate.
