Abstract

773,691. Sewing machines. VEB SPEZIALNAHMASCHINENWERK LIMBACH. Jan. 7, 1955, No. 569/55. Class 112. [Also in Group XXIV] Embroidery machines, stands, lubrication.- In a multi-needle embroidery machine wherein the movement of the embroidery frames is controlled by a Jacquard mechanism,. the embroidery tools are carried by two spacedapart horizontal structures 2 and 3 interconnected at their ends by members 4 and 5 so as to form a passage through which a work table 1 projects as a support for the embroidery frames 6. The upper structure 2 carries spaced housings 64 for the needle bars 7, and the lower structure 3 carries spaced housings 80 for the looptakers 8. The frames 6 are connected by arms 15 to a braced structure 16 provided with ball bearings 26 which rest on the plastics-covered top of table 1. Structure 16 is movable longitudinally with respect to the needles in a slide 25, and transversely to the needles in slides 30. Transverse movement is imparted to slide 25 by a rack 21, and longitudinal movement is imparted to slides 30 by levers 18 connected together by a rod 19 and rocked together by a rack 22, racks 21 and 22 being actuated by a Jacquard mechanism 23. A protective plate 31 is disposed over part of the structure 16 and its actuating gear. The members 4. and 5 are mounted on a stand comprising columns. 10 interconnected at top and bottom by members 11, the stand also serving to support a cupboard 12 for housing the Jacquard cards. A shaft 37, driven by a pulley 38, is geared at one end to a shaft 42 which carries at its forward end a handwheel 45, and is connected at its rear end, via a clutch, to the driving shaft of the Jacquard mechanism, a rearward extension of the latter. shaft also carrying a handwheel. The Jacquard cards 32 are mounted on reels 33, 33' and pass over a transporter drum 35. A vertical shaft 48, also driven from shaft 37, is geared to horizontal shafts 50 and 85 disposed in the upper structure 2 for driving the needle bars 7 and thread take-ups 67, shaft 48 also being geared to a horizontal shaft 51 disposed in the lower structure 3 for driving the looptakers 8. Shaft 50 is connected by gears 53 to shafts 54, each of which carries a crank-pin 69 engaged by one end of a link 71 slidable in a pivoted sleeve 72, the other end of link 71 being pivoted to one end of link 75 the other end of which is pivoted to a block 77 secured. to the needle bar. The arrangement is such that the needle travels fastest near the bottom of its stroke and slowest near the top of its stroke. Each thread take-up 67 is pivoted intermediately at 68 and carries at its inner end a roller 87 engaged in a cam groove 66 formed in a respective cam disc 86 secured to shaft 85. Shaft 51 is connected by respective gears 55 to shafts 56 each of which carries a looptaker 8. Each shaft 56 and its gears 55 is enclosed within a housing 80 which is secured by screws 81 to the structure 3 and is sealed to provide an oil-bath. Disconnecting needle drive.-Each shaft 54 is connected to shaft 50 by a handle-operable clutch 58 which enables the needles to be selectively uncoupled. A clutch coupling, which is controlled by the Jacquard mechanism, is also interposed in shaft 50 and which, when operated, stops the needles at their highest points while the looptakers 8 and takeups 67 continue to operate. Said clutch coupling comprises a driving disc 88 formed with a concentric slot 89 containing a pin 90 fixed to an intermediate disc 91 pivoted on the hub of disc 88, a spring 96 mounted on disc 88 drawing pin 90 to one end of slot 89. Disc 91 is made from fabric reinforced plastics material. A driven disc 97 has pivoted therein at 98 a pawl 99, and a spring 100, carried by disc 97, normally urges the nose 103 of the pawl into a peripheral notch 104 formed in disc 91. To disconnect the needles a bell crank lever 105, pivoted at 106 to the machine frame, is rocked by a link 107 from the Jacquard mechanism, when the nose of the lever 105 makes contact with the tail 108 of pawl 98, whereby the nose 103 of the latter is withdrawn from notch 104. It is stated that each shaft 54 may alternatively be provided with a clutch coupling. Illuminating.-The undersurface of structure 2 is provided with transparent windows 112 between the respective needle housings 64, a fluorescent tubular lamp being mounted above each window. A window 114 is also provided in the end member 5 for illuminating the Jacquard mechanism.
