Class 112 A multi-needle embroidering machine comprisese two parallel rows of needle heads mounted on a common frame disposed 'freely above a common continuous table, and a common carrier for the embroidery frames movable on the table between said rows. Needle heads 1, 4 are respectively mounted on parallel structures 3, 5 which are disposed above a common table 2 and are interconnected at their respective ends by members 7. An electric motor 12 drives a horizontal shaft 13 which in turn drives the respective needles and loopers via vertical shafts 14, 15. Shaft 13 contains clutches 18, 19 which enable either row of embroidering tools to be disconnected from the motor and then to be controlled by respective handwheels 17, 16. The embroidery frames 26 are connected by holders 25 to the opposite sides of a common table-like carrier 6 which is supported on table 2 at points 35. An automatic Jacquard mechanism 21, mounted at one side of the machine, controls the longitudinal movement of carrier 6 by means of a rack 29 acting on a gear carried by a transversely slidable bearing 30, and the lateral movement of the carrier by means of racks 33 which are driven from a shaft 31 and act on gears carried by longitudinally slidable bearings 34. The table 2 and carrier 6 are preferably covered by plastics material, and the carrier 6 is provided on three sides with a vertical flange 38 for retaining the embroidered material which passes on to the carrier inwardly from both sets of embroidering tools. In a modification, the structures 3, 5 are supported centrally by a separate structure and the Jacquard mechanism is also disposed centrally opposite the latter.
