Abstract
773,629. Concrete mixers. AUGUST, P. Aug. 12, 1955, No. 23274/55. Class 86 A transportable concrete mixer consists of a trough 3 mounted in an inclined position on wheels 1 and having at its upper and lower ends respectively a discharge door 7 and means for charging weighed amounts of sand, cement and gravel. A water tank 29 with a spray-pipe 30 is supported above the upper trough portion. The materials are conveyed upwardly and mixed in the trough by a worm member 5 driven by a motor 6. The member 5 has a shaft 4 carrying an outer screw built up of spaced, tapered, helical blades 9 each carried on a radial arm 12, the outer edges of the blades being secured to a continuous helical strip 13. In the lower trough portion 5a, inner helical blades 10 are attached directly to the shaft 4 between the outer blades to form with the latter a continuous worm conveying the sand, &c., into the upper mixing portion 5b of the trough. In the latter a continuous helical blade 11 is mounted directly on the shaft to convey the material downwardly, i.e. against the conveyance direction of the outer blades 9, so that an intensive mixing effect is obtained. On completion of the mixing operation the door 7 is opened and the members 9, 13 effect the complete discharge of the material. The mixing time, about one minute, is such that by charging the trough at like intervals the mixer can be operated with a continuous discharge.
