Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0773617/IV(b)/1> (wherein Z1 and Z2 represent hydrogen, halogen or an alkyl, alkoxy or sulphonic acid residue, R represents hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, araliphatic or a -furyl residue, and Me represents a cation), and the preparation thereof by reacting the corresponding free diamino compounds with the appropriate aldehyde-bisulphite compound or with the aldehyde itself and sulphur dioxide. The products may be used to produce fluorescent effects on substrata (see Group XL (a)). In examples: (1) tolidine sulphone (prepared from o-tolidine and oleum at about 75 DEG C.) is refluxed with an aqueous solution of formaldehyde-sodium bisulphite; (2) benzidine sulphone is refluxed with an aqueous solution of furfural-sodium bisulphite and sodium carbonate. Additional reactants specified are: alkoxy and halogen derivatives of benzidine sulphone, and benzidine and tolidine sulphone sulphonic acids; acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde, p-chlorobenzaldehyde and cinnamaldehyde.
