Abstract
773,132. Mounting engines. OPEL AKT.- GES., A. Oct. 13, 1955 [Oct. 26, 1954], No. 29179/55. Class 79(3). [Also in Group XXXII] A resilient mounting for the suspension of a motor vehicle engine comprises an apertured block of rubber 16 bonded to a part 11 of the engine, and to a bracket 13 secured to the vehicle frame, Fig. 1. (not shown) the block 16 having upwardly and downwardly extending lips 22, 23, which abut a part 10 rigid with the part 11 without pressure under the static load of the engine. On increased loading in either direction the lips 22, 23, provide progressively increasing stiffness. The centre of the radius of of the curved profile of the lips 22, 23, is disposed on the axis of longitudinal oscillation X-X. The rubber in the vicinity of the lips 22 surrounds the top edge of the bracket 13 to provide buffers 28 which co-operate with a skirt 29 on the part 10 to limit deflections in a fore and aft direction, for example on sudden braking.
