Abstract
773,129. Cardboard containers. MILLAR, A. L. Dec. 2, 1955 [Oct. 4, 1955 ; Oct. 11, 1955 ; Oct. 13, 1955 ; Oct. 24, 1955], Nos. 28171/55, 28870/55, 29135/55 and 30286/55. Class 18. In a container having a push-in flap 8 adjacent a closed end, the closed end has a line of weakness 11 intersecting the hinge 6 of the flap so arranged that by squeezing the sides of the container after the separated flap has been pushed inwardly the closed end and flap assume an outwardly arched formation to maintain the flap in a position to afford an unobstructed pouring aperture. A rectangular container has sides 1, 2 having extensions forming flaps 3, 5 adapted to fold inwardly on fold lines 4, 6, the flaps 5 have central slots 9 and weakened lines 10, the flaps 3 have weakened lines 11 and the semi-circular push-in flap 8 is formed by a weakened line 7. In forming the closed end one of the flaps 3 is folded inwardly on line 4 and the flaps 5 are then folded down on it and secured with adhesive, the other flap 3 is then folded inwardly on line 4 and secured onto the other flaps. After pushing in the flap 8 pressure applied at 12, causes the container top to arch outwardly in an inverted V-formation. The flap 8 is caused by this action to fold inside the inverted V-formation and to be maintained in such position out of the way of the pouring opening. The flap 8 may have a weakened line down the centre. In a modification the slots 9 are replaced by a continuation of the weakened lines 10, and the flaps 5 are secured beneath the lower flap 3.
