Abstract

773,005. Motor cycles: frames. PFEIFFER, A. June 6, 1955, No. 16170/55. Classes 79(3) and 136(3). In a motor cycle having a fuel tank 1 which is arranged between the saddle strut 6 and the steering head 4 and forms a part of the frame, the tank 1 terminates short of the strut 6 and is secured thereto by two plates 5, the rear parts of which partly fit round the strut 6. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4 the tank 1 is formed in two halves having their forward ends welded in a fluid-tight manner to the steering head. The plates 5 are welded one on each side to the rear end of the tank, embrace and are welded to the saddle strut 6, the upper and lower edges of the plates being joined to form a box-like structure. The plates carry projections 7 having slots 8 for mounting the motor cycle engine 9. In another embodiment, Figs. 5 to 8 (not shown), the underside of the tank is slightly concave and the upper weld between the tank halves is covered by a decorative strip, the strip having a detachable connection at its forward end to the fuel tank and having a screwed connection at its rear end to the plates 5.
