[Also in Group XIII] In a system in which liquid is maintained under pressure by gas supplied to an expansion header tank, the tank is disposed at the point of highest pressure in the liquid and seals in the system are packed by gas fed from the tank. In the arrangement shown liquid sodium is circulated through a heat exchange circuit by a pump 10 under pressure maintained by a supply of inert gas, such as argon or nitrogen, to a header tank 12 placed at the discharge of the pump which is preferably arranged at the point of maximum static head. Gas is fed from the tank to sealing points in the system and valves 16 and 18 are provided so that gas may be fed directly to the sealing points through a line 20 when the pump is not running.
