To limit its vertical height a machine particularly for underground working has a double casing on its sides only, these parts of the casing serving as chambers through which cooling liquid can flow. As shown, fins 8 project into the jacket 1 which bears tightly against the stator laminµ and the jacket has water supply and discharge pipes 5 and 6.
