Abstract
772,651. Self-propelled missiles. BLACKER, L. V. S. Oct. 4, 1951 [Jan. 26, 1951], No. 2089/51. Classes 9 (1) and 9 (2). A reaction propelled missile comprises a head, a tail tube and a tail stabilizer which is a rigid open-ended drum diverging rearwardly with an angle between 1¢ and 15 degrees between the wall and axis of the drum. Firing the missile shown from a gun-like apparatus causes the striker on the end of tail tube 6 to ignite charge 9 which in turn ignites cordite charge 10 through holes 11. The gases generated issue from divergent nozzles 12, the stabilizing effect of these nozzles being assisted by divergent tail stabilizer 4. Air flow from rear nozzles 12 is smoothed by cowling 18. The explosive head lying forward of diaphragm 3 may comprise a hollow charge behind cup 13. Specification 662,429 is referred to.
