772,592. Potato planting machines. KLEINE, F., KLEINE, E., and KLEINE, L., [trading as KLEINE, F. [Firm of]]. Feb. 10, 1953, No. 3715/53. Class 6(1). In a potato planting machine of the kind comprising one or more inclined bucket conveyers 2 supplied with potatoes from a hopper 1, the potatoes are fed at the bottom of the conveyer leaving a substantial part of the upper run open to visual inspection and means are provided for controlling the downward passage of the potatoes. As shown, each conveyer comprises two or more adjacent rows of buckets each row being staggered relative to the adjacent row. On the downward run of the conveyer the buckets co-operate with an endless belt 3 moving at a slower speed than the conveyer and the potatoes fall into a power operated trap door that opens to deposit the potatoes into a shoot 7. The hopper is recessed to form a seat for an operator who fills any empty buckets by hand. Ground wheels in the machine frame may be steerable and locked in any position and may be controlled by a further operator mounted on a removable seat projecting from the side of the machine. Furrow openers and closers are provided.
